Dr Laurel Nightingale

Dr Laurel Nightingale

After working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for the NHS in Somerset, Laurel made the move to Elderwick seeking a quiet life - preferably one involving plenty of cake.

Maggie Wright

Maggie is a long term resident of Elderwick and loves her life in the village. She is the Chair of the local WI, and Laurel's new best friend. She has two (now adult) children.

Hetty & Constance

Albert enjoyed a distinguished career as a Professor of Linguistics before retiring to the countryside, back to the village in which he was raised. He is a member of the Village Committee and shares his life with his animal menagerie including his cockerel, Aroon, and his rabbit, Lago.

Hetty & Constance

Hetty & Constance

Hetty & Constance

Sisters, and the redoubtable owners of The Plump Tart bakery, Hetty and Constance are famous county-wide for their pastries and fresh-baked bread.

Jo

Hetty & Constance

Sam

Talented chef and proprietor of the popular village café, The Pleasant Pheasant. Jo creates remarkable food from seasonal ingredients, most of which are locally sourced.

Sam

Bar manager of The Snooty Fox, Sam makes a mean cocktail and what he doesn't know about locally brewed beer isn't worth knowing.

The Reverend Christopher Ibori

Arriving in Elderwick a little while after Laurel, Christopher is the new vicar at St Stephen's church. Friends with Albert, he is partial to biscuits and the odd treat from The Plump Tart.

Hugh Quintrell

The Reverend Christopher Ibori

The Reverend Christopher Ibori

Famous crime writer and author of 30 books, Hugh has come to Elderwick for some peace and quiet. He is struggling with writer's block and has booked an appointment with Dr Nightingale who he hopes will help him to ".. kill people again."

Ms Dorothy Little

Ms Dorothy Little

Long term resident of Elderwick, there's little that doesn't annoy Dorothy. Member of the WI, church volunteer, she also owns a holiday rental, Tulip Cottage. She is not a fan of Hugh Quintrell.

DS Ben Templeton

Marcus & Petra Hartfield

Ms Dorothy Little

Local police officer, Ben is an attractive silver fox. He & Laurel keep meeting under trying circumstances.

Marcus' family, the Hartfields, have owned Elderwick Hall since the 1700s. Petra, his wife, is a successful vlogger - now also on TikTok - giving business advice and guidance to young women.

Aroon

Marcus & Petra Hartfield

Albert's cheeky cockerel, Aroon, is an early riser - often crowing as early as 4am. He is a huge fan of Laurel's hens and visits them often to show off his prowess as a rooster in his prime. He and Laurel have a strained relationship.

Jayne Clement

Jayne Clement

Jayne Clement

Another new arrival in Elderwick, Jayne is co-manager of the Dandelions Children's Centre at Elderwick Hall. Effortlessly stylish, warm, and passionate about her work, Laurel is strangely reluctant to engage with her.

Alex Galanis

Jayne Clement

Jayne Clement

Jayne's co-manager at Dandelions, Alex, is a friendly, monocle-wearing, welcome addition to the village.

Penelope
